Laser Types

The wavelengths of diode lasers are typically not well absorbed by tissue directly, therefore making ablation or tissue cutting unfeasible. The diode laser’s 810 nm to 1 100 nm wavelengths are, however, put to good use in innovative tools that use the laser internally to heat a glass fiber tip from the inside before using it to cut soft tissue.

Nd:YAG lasers vary in wavelengths from about 946 nm to 1 440 m, although they typically emit light at about 1 064 nm. These workhorses can be used for various kinds of soft tissue surgery in oral cavities. They form fibrin, owing to their coagulative abilities, thereby helping to seal treated pockets. Some of the procedures lasers such as these can be used for include biopsy, gingivectomy, coagulation of graft donor sites, periodontal sulcular debridement, frenectomy, and laser-assisted new attachment procedure (LANAP).

The Periolase MVP-7

The Periolase MVP-7 dental laser is useful in a range of laser procedures. This 6-Watt free-running multi-variable pulsed Nd:YAG laser features as many as seven pulse durations, the most available on the market.

The laser also features digital technology, such as a simple and intuitive android touch screen, as well as a procedure-controlled menu that contains the appropriate parameters preset for as many as twenty procedures.

It is used for minimally invasive procedures that prevent advanced-stage gum disease from setting in by removing diseased and infected cells from underlying connective tissue. It successfully addresses the three components for the recovery of full oral function, which are new alveolar bone, new cementum, and new periodontal ligament.

This means that recovery is far quicker. Aside from this major plus, the benefits of laser treatment are numerous. Most importantly, no harm will be done to healthy tissue, and the risk of bacterial infection is minimal owing to the sterilizing properties of the laser.
